If you have an Android phone in your pocket but have been mulling upgrading it to something new, this could be the weekend you finally feel like your current device is a little long in the tooth.

The Mobile World Congress tech trade show is kicking off in Barcelona, and several brands have been teasing new device launches that could be for major new smartphones set to tempt you into upgrading.

Sunday March 2 will see Chinese Android firm Xiaomi launch its Xiaomi 15 phone line up for the European market at an event in Barcelona. Trailed as ‘The Next Pinnacle’, the event starts at 2pm Spanish time, with the company confirming in the below post on X that one of the devices is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which has Leica branding and has a 1-inch camera sensor.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has already been announced for the Chinese market, along with the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro. We’ll have to tune in to the event to see which, if any, of the three phones is coming to the UK but we have our fingers crossed it’s all of them.

last year and deemed it to have the best camera of any phone. But it also costs £1,299, making it pricier than the . Hopefully we’ll also see the Xiaomi 15 hit these shores for a more manageable price to contend with , OnePlus and Honor.

Honor is also teasing an event that’s happening on Sunday, though it’s less clear if the company will announce a new phone. The fellow Chinese firm launched the impressive Honor Magic 7 Pro last month, .

Sunday’s event promises to introduce ‘Honor Alpha Plan’, with the below X post heavily hinting you’ll be able to transfer files to a certain fruit-named company’s devices “without boundaries”. It even cheekily says “Dear Sam, In case you change your mind, we’re always OPEN”, suggesting Samsung doesn’t want to get in on the party.

Other Android phones have introduced ways to send files to devices, similar to how Apple uses the very popular AirDrop to quickly transfer between each other, but the Apple user needs to download a standalone app. We’ll have to see if Honor has found a way to do it without this clunky workaround.

More of a certainty is new phones from UK tech start up Nothing, which has already revealed the design of two new phones on its social media pages. The Nothing Phone 3a series appears to have two different models that could replace the existing Phone 2a and 2a Plus, the former of which was announced around MWC in 2024.

One of the phones, below, has a new-look circular camera module with what looks like a periscope zoom lens, which Nothing seemingly . The brand has had dual cameras on all its previous devices, but never a telephoto. The second device also .

These Android phones could prove to be some of the cheaper devices launched at MWC. The mid-range 2a and 2a Plus were cheaper than the Phone 2, and it’s interesting to see that Nothing has decided to launch the 3a series before the existence of the Phone 3 – unless the company has a major surprise up its sleeve for MWC.

While it’s unclear if there will be an event in Barcelona, Nothing has trailed a time of 10am UK on Monday March 4 for an announcement of some kind.

If that weren’t enough, also happening today is an announcement from HMD, the Finnish company with rights to use the Nokia brand on its devices. Recently, HMD has concentrated on smartphones under its own brand name.

shows the March 2 date with an HMD-branded football and other spheres with the FC Barcelona logo. Other X posts say “Flip like never before” and show a device with the club’s logo on it.

If we’re about to get an FC Barcelona flip phone, we’re very excited. If that’s the case, it could be a dumbphone rather than a folding display Android device, as HMD has produced more than one Nokia branded dumbphone over the past few years.

It looks like it’s going to be a busy MWC for new Android phones. Express.co.uk will be there to bring you the latest news.
