Many UK cities hold a quintessential charm that captures the heart and interest of a host of travellers, both nationally and internationally.

Finding the “world’s most beautiful” city in the UK is no easy feat with many arguing the likes of , and, of course, as being the ultimate UK city.

Based on the golden ratio, which is a mathematical concept used since ancient times, one city has been found to be the most beautiful.

This spot is home to a well-preserved historic architecture, complete with ancient Roman city walls, all seemingly integrated into this compact city layout.

For these reasons, and a host of many more, Chester in the UK has been found to be among the best and most beautiful.

An interesting revelation from the latest “Eye-Catching Architecture” study by Online Advisor, has declared Chester the most beautiful city in the world.

This was based on the golden ratio which places Chester ahead of many popular spots in the world including and .

This ratio, denoted as 1:1.618, is a proportion known for its rich aesthetic appeal which historically, has been observed in nature, art, and urban architecture.

The ratio study utilised Google Street View to help further analyse 2,400 buildings and is a new approach when it comes to assessing architectural beauty in an area.

For Chester, an impressive score of 83.7% of buildings align with this ratio, which means this small UK city tops Venice (83.3%) and even Rome, London and Belfast at 82%.

Chester scored big with a visit here invoking feelings as if stepping back in time thanks to the region’s blend of Tudor and medieval buildings including its very own 1,000-year-old cathedral.

“It has long been known there is a science to beauty and it is pleasing to know that our city’s architects have followed design guidelines throughout the centuries so that Chester can scientifically be ‘The World’s most beautiful City’,” said Jonty Goodchild, Director at Bolton Birch, a commercial property firm that specializes in Chester, Cheshire, North Wales, and The Wirral.

He continued: “It’s great news, but although we are the most beautiful city scientifically we still need to appear so to the doubters. This means being picture-perfect and not resting on our laurels.”

Chester’s many notable landmarks also include the UK’s most prominent Roman amphitheatre found here, its unique Chester Rows and an array of medieval structures.

The city is also famed for its walkability making a wonder around here a cinch thanks to its closeness of remarkable buildings further enhancing its appeal.
