The comedian, who is known to fearlessly roast celebrities, made a controversial reference to ’s recent presenter shake-ups. He seemed to make an allusion to ’s departure from the network last year, along with Gino D’Acampo whose shows have been put on halt pending an investigation into sexual misconduct – claims he denies.
During his opening monologue at London’s O2 Arena, Jack quipped: “ITV has had so many of its presenters cancelled this year they’ve had to come crawling back to an ex. And what an honour it is to be hosting again the biggest night in British music.”
While Whitehall’s return as host had been widely anticipated, with fans praising his ability to bring a sense of humour to the high-profile event, some felt his joke went too far.
One viewer took to social media asking: “Nothing against Jack Whitehall, but surely there’s a more appropriate person to host this?”
