Apple has just announced the iPhone 6e, replacing the old iPhone SE model, with a new and attractive design for the cheapest iPhone model. What’s surprising about this new Apple phone is how close it sits to the existing iPhone 16 – but saving you a lot of cash in the process.
The iPhone 16e starts at £599 from Apple, but if you’re looking to buy it on contract, then should be high on your list. You’ll get the new iPhone 16e with 100GB data for .
Diving into the details of this deal, you’ll get the 128GB model of the phone (in either black or white, the only colours it’s available in), on the iD Mobile network. You’ll get 100GB of data, with unlimited calls and SMS, and roaming across 50 countries included. That’s great value for money and from checking out rivals, it’s the cheapest way to buy this phone with that amount of data.
One important thing you’ll need to note is that the price increases to £30.49 from 1 April 2026 – so next year it will be £1.50 a month more expensive each month. As this is a 24-month contract, the total price would be £721.26 for the 24 months of the contract, including the upfront fee and the inflationary price rise mid-contract.
Don’t miss…
So what do you get for your money?
The iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch OLED display which is bright and vibrant. David Snelling, Technology Editor at Express.co.uk described the display as “bright, colourful and packed with detail” in his . The only thing you really need to know is that you don’t get the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 16 here, instead it uses the notch that was on older iPhones.
Importantly, you get Face ID, so unlocking is super speedy. That’s not the only thing that’s super speedy as this phone is powered by the Apple A18 Bionic chip. It’s very close to the performance of the iPhone 16 so all your apps and games will work perfectly.
What’s really impressive, however, is the battery life. Across the board, reviewers are finding that the offers better battery life than other iPhone models which is really impressive. One downside is that there’s no MagSafe support, so it’s not compatible with those convenient magnetic accessories, like chargers, wallets and external batteries.
The other big compromise is the camera: there’s a single camera on the back, so you don’t get the ultra-wide lens that the iPhone 16 offers and you don’t get near the zoom performance that you’d get from But compromise had to come in somewhere.
Finally, you’ll get, as well as updates on this phone for years to come.
If you’re looking for cheaper, then there’s a great deal on the , although it has less data. If you’re not sold on that deal, then the best rival at this price would be the Google Pixel 9.is offering the latest Pixel phone with no upfront cost from £31 a month. It comes in a range of colours, has a 6.3-inch display and has 7 years of software support from Google.
