Brit Awards fans fume as The Beatles snubbed in ‘disrespectful’ Jack Whitehall quip

Charli XCX and Billie Eilish took home the prestigious Song of the Year award for their hit Guess.

While celebrating their win, Jack quipped: “Congratulations to Charli XCX and Billie Eilish. Bad luck to The Beatles, stick at it lads. Crazy to think they now have the same conversion rate in that category as Liberty X.”

The Beatles’ song Now and Then had been in contention for the award, alongside tracks from Central Cee, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay, but ultimately lost out to Charli and Billie.

The joke did not sit well with many viewers, who felt it was an unfair dig at one of the most influential music groups of all time.

While accepting her award, Charli XCX humorously acknowledged the theme of her song, saying: “Yeah, this is cool. I’m really happy that a song about underwear now has a BRIT Award. Very important stuff. I’m sure that proves something about songwriting, I’m not sure what.”

She also praised Billie Eilish for her quick turnaround in collaborating on the track, adding: “I asked whether she wanted to be on the song about three days before we shot the music video, and five days before it came out.

“So shout out to her for moving with pace. Not all artists are spontaneous despite them claiming that they are, so thank you Billie, for running and gunning it with me, that was really cool.”

Jack Whitehall wasn’t finished with his Beatles jabs for the night, and later added: “[KSI] has got as many wins tonight as The Beatles. None.”

Fans took to social media to express their frustration over the remarks, with one fuming: “Jack Whitehall the pr**k he is can’t make a joke that lands. He’s so unfunny. Telling The Beatles ‘keep at it lads’ while half are dead.”

Another simply added: “Jack Whitehall disrespecting The Beatles.” A third tweeted: “I’ve got the Brits on, because honestly, I’ve got nothing better to put on in the background. Shocked they didn’t give The Beatles Song of the Year tbh. Less because of it being the best actual song, but just because of what it is.”
