Brit Awards fans demand ‘trigger warning’ after controversial performance

viewers were left up in arms and demanding the broadcast be slapped with a “trigger warning” after a controversial performance.

US songstress Sabrina Carpenter opened the show after presenter Jack Whitehall introduced her, performing a rousing rendition of her hit track Espresso alongside a troupe of dancers dressed as Beefeaters. Then it was time for Sabrina – clad in bright red lingerie – to perform her raunchy track Bad Chem.

The racy show saw Sabrina and her dancers spreading their legs while she sang the line “Come ride on me, I mean camaraderie!” while the five foot nothing star gave it her all. But one fan wasn’t too impressed as they demanded via X: “Sabrina’s Bad Chem performance needed a trigger warning for certain people.”

Another added: “Let’s not criticise a woman for her clothing but I’m glad I’m not sat here with little kids. I hear you parents but just say it’s her costume!” While a third fan added: “!!!!! 8:30 and a stage full of half dressed women and a telentless twat sexualising herself on @ITV PRE watershed.”

“Jesus that Sabrina Carpenter’s performance was a bit close to the bone. Especially the beefeaters!” someone else agreed. Another social media user echoed: “Great, Sabrina Carpenter just showing what female empowerment is in 2025. It’s unbelievable. Don’t believe the hype and wake up to peak sexism.”

Other viewers demanded Ofcom intervene, with one writing: “Sabrina Carpenter very mediocre performance and no doubt a lot of Ofcom complaints, hopefully not and people just get a grip!”

A different fan said: “ITV want the Ofcom complaints. They knew people would not be happy about the Sabrina Carpenter performance so all they had to do was either move the start time to after the watershed or change who opened.”

And another echoed: “That Sabrina Carpenter performance will be interesting to see on #Gogglebox this week. Giles getting all huffy puffy aroused while Mary’s trying to get Siri to call Ofcom again.”
