Journalist Wertheim was unaware that he was on air. He went on to comment about Krejcikova’s forehead which immediately got criticism from the fans.
Krejcikova took the moment to highlight the need for respect in sports media. She said that such distractions take away from the hard work and dedication athletes put into their careers.
She wrote on social media: “As an athlete who has dedicated herself to this sport, it was disappointing to see this type of unprofessional commentary.” The backlash led to Wertheim’s indefinite suspension from Tennis Channel, and the network later issued an apology to Krejcikova.
