A popular high street card store is set to close two stores in the latest of shop’s shutting their doors. Clintons, which has 163 branches has announced that two of its UK stores will close with sales to take place at both locations.

that it will close stores in Halifax, west Yorkshire, and Andover, Hampshire for good this April.

According to The Courier, card fans first learnt of the closure in Halifax after signs went up in the shop window. They declared “everything must go”.

Meanwhile, staff members at the Andover site were told they would be losing their jobs before Christmas. A spokesperson told Andover Advertiser: “We were told the shop will close in April, there are about eight people working here at the moment, including temporary staff.”

Following the other closures, in January, it was reported that a Clintons Cards in Southend had closed its doors for the final time after trading for 20 years.

Clintons first launched in 1968 and became a must stop shop for greetings cards for all occasions. At their peak they boasted more than 1,000 stores across the UK.

Sadly however, the catastrophic rise of online shopping meant a decline in sales for the business – forcing it to close down many of its bricks and mortar stores. In March 2024, Clintons was taken over by Cardzone.
