Golf legend was recently seen cheering from the stands as his daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, played a pivotal role in her high school football team’s victory. On Thursday night, Sam, a senior defender for Benjamin High School’s girls football team, played in her side’s 2-1 win over Lake Christian, propelling them into the Florida Class 2A state championship game.
The team is now set to compete against the victor of Ransom Everglades and Episcopal School of Jacksonville. While Tiger’s son Charlie is carving out a path similar to his father’s on the golf course, it seems that the same passion for golf didn’t quite capture Sam. Tiger has previously shared that Sam associates golf with a “negative connotation” due to the sport often taking him away from home during her childhood.
“She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time… when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her,” Woods reflected last year.
He went on to explain how he and Sam have built a unique bond that doesn’t involve golf, engaging in activities that are distant from the sport. In contrast, Tiger’s relationship with his son revolves heavily around golf. “I had to pack, and I had to leave and I was gone for weeks and there was a negative connotation to it. So we developed our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf that we do things that don’t involve golf. Meanwhile, my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It’s very different.”
The sporting passion runs deep in the Woods family, with both Sam and Charlie sharing a passion for football, something Woods had shared with in 2018. Referring to their enthusiasm, he stated: “They’re keen into soccer. If they want to play golf, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s fine, too. As long as they have a good time playing sports.

“I find that a lot of fun now, to be able to physically get out and pass the ball around with them. I get such a big kick out of watching them compete and play. It’s so much fun to see how happy and passionate they are about soccer.”
With the football season wrapping up, attention shifts as Sam, a high school senior, gears up to make a splash in track and field for Benjamin, showcasing her talents in hurdles and middle-distance events.
