The world’s oldest ever person living well over 100 thanks to one alcoholic drink

The is a woman who lived to the incredible age of of 122 years and 164 days before passing away on August 4, 1997. 

Jeanne Calment was born in Arles, France on February 21, 1875 and is known for being quite the icon.  

Before her long life came to an end, Calment shared the three things she credited to her long life – the occasional glass of Port, olive oil and lots of laughter. 

Jeanne didn’t overindulge but sipped her port in a way that seemed to fit her philosophy of enjoying life’s pleasures without excess.

Another essential component of Jeanne’s routine was her use of olive oil, which she applied generously to her skin every day.

As part of her morning ritual, she would apply soap to her skin, followed by olive oil—an important element of her skincare routine—and powder to her face.

She not only applied olive oil to her skin but also followed a diet rich in olive oil and reportedly consumed nearly 1kg of chocolate each week.

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of Jeanne Calment’s long life was her ability to laugh and maintain a positive outlook.

Laughter has long been regarded as one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce stress, increase happiness, and boost overall health.

However, this world record could soon see itself surpassed by María Antonia Cuero, a Colombian woman who has reportedly celebrated her 123rd birthday. 

Cuero is being considered for the Guinness World Records as the oldest person alive.

Her birth year, 1901, predates World War I, and if her age is confirmed, she would surpass the current record held by Jeanne Louise Calment. 

Cuero attributes her remarkable longevity to two key foods: fish and bananas.
