Royal Mail is the UK’s primary postal service, to homes and businesses nationwide.

The service operates six days a week, Monday to Saturday, and aims to deliver to all households it has mail for on these days.

However, its large operation network is sometimes impacted by disruption, which affects the movement of mail and can cause delays.

On Friday, February 28, reported that 12 postcodes would face delays due to issues in some of its mail centres and delivery offices.

The postal service also warned: “Our air network services operated to schedule over the last 24-hours, with the following exception: Technical issues cancelled flights between East Midlands airport and Guernsey airport last night.”

Mail was transferred on contingency services, which means that some mail posted yesterday in the Midlands, southwest and north of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, due for delivery today in Guernsey, may arrive later than expected.

According to the postal service, some items travelling in the opposite direction, posted from Guernsey for delivery in the Midlands, southwest and north of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, may also be affected.

Elsewhere, mail centres in Bristol and Swansea did not run to schedule in the last 24 hours, which means some mail in five specific postcodes “may be delivered later than planned”, said Royal Mail.

Royal Mail deliveries include letters and parcels sent to local delivery offices before being dispatched to their final address.

Local resourcing issues can impact the delivery workflow, which means that deliveries may not be possible six days a week in a small number of offices.

According to the postal service, three delivery offices were “most impacted” on Friday, February 28. However, the service assured customers that targeted support is being offered to restore services to a high standard.
