Members of the public have all said the same thing after a “humilaiting” encounter between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Donald Trump.
The political leaders met at the White House earlier this week, and a barbed knock at Sir Keir was issued by President Trump. The conversation turned to Russia and saw Starmer interrupt Trump’s claim over Ukraine funding.
But the POTUS handed off a comment which left everyone in the room “laughing” at the Prime Minister.
A meeting between the pair was shared to X, and it appears the President had the upper hand after knocking Prime Minister Starmer with a joke about the war in Ukraine and Russia’s military might.
Sir Keir was heard praising the relationship between the US and UK, though Trump’s comment afterwards left those in the room with the two world leaders laughing.

Prime Minister Starmer said: “That is why this is the greatest alliance for prosperity and security that the world has ever seen. Whenever necessary we absolutely backed each other up.”
Though Sir Keir praised the so-called “special relationship” between the US and UK, Trump’s offhand remark left the room in stitches.
President Trump said: “Could you take on Russia by yourselves?” Starmer laughed at the jab, before Trump moved on to other questions from reporters in the room.
The comment from Trump comes after similar encounters between Sir Keir and French President Emmanuel Macron, with both European leaders pointing out Trump’s false claims over financial aid sent to Ukraine.
President Donald Trump claimed: “We want to have a little bit of luck, the European nations got their money back by giving the money, we don’t get the money back. Biden made a deal for $350 billion and I thought it was a very unfair situation.”
Sir Keir interjected, saying: “We’re not getting all of ours, I mean, quite a bit of ours was gifted, it was given. Mainly it was gifted, actually.” The Prime Minister has been favourably compared to French President Emmanuel Macron, who was also seen with Trump in recent days.
Members of the public have since praised both Starmer and Macron for pointing out the incorrect statement from Trump.
One person wrote: “Good to see Starmer follow Macon in calmly but clearly correcting Trump’s outright lies on European support for Ukraine. Trump shows total disrespect and contempt for foreign leaders thinking that he can get away with telling easily disproven lies about their countries.”
President Macron had countered Trump’s claim that European nations had “loaned” money to Ukraine. He told Trump: “To be frank, we paid 60% of the total effort… we provided real money to be clear.”
