A royal expert has hit out at calls for Prince Harry and to return to the Royal Family after quitting five years ago.

Since the King’s cancer diagnosis last year, multiple comments have been made in the media on whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should leave and return to royal life.

While some believe this could be good for the royals and the institution as a whole, one royal expert has said there is one main reason why this should not be the case.

In response to calls for the couple to return, that to invite them back into the fold would be an oversight of their past behaviour, which has seen both Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, be highly critical of the Royal Family in a series of interviews and bombshell revelations.

Addressing calls for the couple to return, Eden said: “What it overlooks is Harry and Meghan’s past behaviour.”

Eden also addressed claims made by Sir Trevor McDonald, who said Meghan was never given a chance to prove herself as a working royal.

The royal expert disputed these claims as he said the royals “rolled out the red carpet” for Meghan and made plenty of effort to help her feel supported.

This included joint engagements with the late Queen, handing her patron roles and having the now King Charles walk her down the aisle when her own father could not attend her 2018 Windsor wedding to .

Eden said: “Much as I respect Sir Trevor, he is wrong to say Meghan was ‘never given a chance to prove herself’. Queen Elizabeth and the rest of her family rolled out the red carpet for the American actress.”

He continued: “There is no reason why those she and Harry have hurt and insulted, such as and Catherine, should be forced to welcome the Sussexes back.”

Despite some royal fans wanting the couple to return to the UK as senior royals, both Harry and Meghan have not shown any interest in doing this.

Since setting up home in Montecito in 2020, where they live with their two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, the couple have seemed content with their post-royal life. Just last year, calling it an “opportunity”.

At The New York Times DealBook Online Summit on December 4 last year, Harry said: “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here. It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live. I feel as though it’s the life that my mum wanted for me. To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK — it’s huge. That is a fantastic opportunity and I’m hugely grateful for that.”
