Death in Paradise exit ‘sealed’ as Selwyn Patterson’s replacement confirmed in first-look

In the latest episode of , fans were left reeling as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, portrayed by Don Warrington, revealed his impending departure from the Saint Marie police force. Despite Catherine Bordey’s (Elizabeth Bourgine) valiant efforts to save his position, Selwyn conceded that his time was up and announced he would be leaving “within a week”.

The show’s teaser for the upcoming episode hinted at the arrival of the Commissioner’s successor. A poignant scene unfolded when Catherine discovered Selwyn packing up his office.

“What on earth is all of this?” she asked, bewildered. His response was sombre: “I am getting things in order before I leave. I just need this case solved first.”

Catherine, refusing to give up, informed him that the petition to keep him had garnered over 10,000 signatures, urging action: ” Now is the time to act. We are going to Kingston to meet with the Chief Commissioner. He needs to realise the whole island is behind you,” reports .

But Selwyn, frustrated, retorted: “I have already spoken to him at length,” adding firmly, “I am not going to beg for my job.”

Catherine, undeterred, replied, “Fine, then don’t. But I will.”

Touched by her dedication yet concerned, Selwyn cautioned her: “But right now, you are letting emotion cloud your judgement.”

He further insisted: “How many times do I have to say it? This will be embarrassing for both of us.”

Despite Catherine’s determination, the Commissioner’s fate was sealed as he confirmed his replacement was inevitable.

In the closing moments of the latest episode, a preview for the upcoming show teased viewers with the arrival of Selwyn’s successor in Saint Marie. Catherine’s voice was heard, stating: “Has Selwyn told you what is happening tomorrow? The person taking over from him arrives.”

Fan speculation has been rife since the announcement that Selwyn’s role would cease, with many pinning their hopes on the return of a beloved character to rescue his position.

“Humphrey was my favourite. He could come back to save Selwyn’s job,” one fan expressed hope.

“Bring back Humphrey,” echoed another.

A third joined in, adding sentimentally: “I like all of the characters, especially Selwyn, I do miss Kris Marshall.”
