B.C. Mounties are providing updates this week about three people who have been missing for months or years, including one who’s been the subject of unfounded rumours recently.
RCMP in Masset are quashing rumours that Shaylanna Lewis, who disappeared on March 21, 2020, has been found nearly five years later.
“We are fully aware of the rumours that have surfaced as of late saying Shaylanna has been found, but that is simply not the case,” said RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson on Thursday. “While the investigation is active and ongoing, she has not been found and police still do not know what happened to her.”
Saunderson said investigators believe someone know what happened and may hold the key to solving the missing person case and providing answers to Lewis’s family.
Anyone with information about what happened to Shaylanna Lewis is asked to call Masset RCMP at 250-626-3991.
In Merritt, police continue to investigate the suspicious disappearance of Miguel Mack, who went missing exactly two years ago on Feb. 27, 2023. Mack’s disappearance was reported to police four days later.
Police dogs, RCMP air services, forensic specialists equipped with drones and family and volunteers all participated in a large-scale search but Mack was never found.
The RCMP southeast district major crime unit has taken over the investigation and is asking for information about what happened.
“There are people out there with knowledge of Miguel Mack’s disappearance and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police,” said Insp. Brent Novakoski, the unit’s officer in charge.
Novakoski said the investigation remains a priority and officers continue to follow up on leads and talk to people in the community.
Mack’s family is hosting a community walk at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and anyone who wants to help and show support is invited. The walk will start at Coutlee Avenue and Orme Street with the tour going around Merritt to Spirit Square and ending at the civic centre.
Anyone with information about Mack’s disappearance is asked to call the regional crime unit’s tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
Alice Maureen Chingee was reported missing to Mackenzie RCMP on July 18, 2024. Seven months later, investigators have not been able to locate her.
“Someone knows what happened and potentially holds the key to solving this and providing answers to her family,” said Saunderson.
Police and family are concerned for Chingee’s well-being, and are asking anyone with information to call Mackenzie RCMP at 250-997-3288.
