and are unlikely to resume their Royal duties, despite the hopes of ardent monarchists, according to one expert.
Richard Eden, a journalist with two decades of experience covering the , understands why some fans of Harry and Meghan would like to see them return to the UK and rejoin The Firm.
However, he believes it “can’t happen” for several reasons, including what he refers to as “Meghan’s past behaviour.”
James Hewitt, former lover, was among several commentators this week suggesting that Harry, 40, desires a closer relationship with his family. In a rare interview, he expressed that Diana “would be concerned” about the ongoing tension between Harry and
In his column in , Mr Eden acknowledged this but stated that Harry and Meghan’s exile in the USA is self-imposed. He wrote: “Call me paranoid, if you wish, but I do sense something of a conspiracy among certain parts of our Establishment to bring about a return of Harry and Meghan to the royal fold. There is no doubt that Harry is seeking a closer relationship with his family again.
“After last year, his younger son let it be known via friends that he was willing to take on a temporary royal role in support of his father. His offer was never taken up, but the California-based Prince is understood to be keen to spend more time in his homeland.”, reports

Mr Eden has weighed in on King Charles’ recent hint that Harry and his family might play a supporting role for him and According to Mr Eden, monarchists “still cling” to this idea with optimism.
However, the commentary then points to “Meghan’s past behaviour” as the main reason the expert doubts she and Harry will rejoin the Royal ranks after their five-year hiatus.
Mr Eden remarked: “The Queen put much effort into making Meghan feel welcome, asking her to join her on a day of engagements in Cheshire, for example, and handing her the roles of patron of the National Theatre and vice president of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. These made the most of Meghan’s talents and interests.”
Yet, he claims that courtiers who worked with Meghan felt she sometimes acted as though she didn’t want to succeed as a Royal. They have expressed to him that Meghan appeared to be searching for reasons to feel aggrieved and to persuade Harry to move back to California with her, where she could earn a substantial income.
Moreover, Meghan’s recent post, where she lamented not being able to express her love for food and home for ‘years’ since closing down her lifestyle blog The Tig, is cited by Mr Eden as further proof of her discontent with the constraints of Royal life.
The King’s curt response during a recent London event has sparked a flurry of analysis from Royal commentators. His scathing take comes after the monarch’s “telling” moment in conversation with former Army captain and para-sports athlete, David Henson.
When David mentioned his participation in the Invictus Games, an event closely associated with , Charles simply replied: “Fantastic” – seemingly not willing to be drawn into a conversation about his youngest son and his sports event. This brief exchange did not go unnoticed by Royal experts, including Roya Nikkhah and Kate Mansey, who pointed out that Charles could have used this as an opportunity to praise Harry but declined.
