Keir Starmer has been left red-faced as Donald Trump’s team appeared to hang a Union Jack flag upside down.
Multiple people seemed to have spotted the mistake with many pointing it out on social media.
One person wrote: ” It seems that the Union flag is flying upside down outside Blair House – the presidential guesthouse opposite the White House where PM Starmer is staying for his visit.”
The thinner red lines on the Union Jack appear to be on the wrong side.
There is already plenty of pressure on Sir Keir who is expected to discuss many issues with , including the war in .

Some people laughed at the gaffe while others said that it could have some more serious connotations.
One person wrote: “Oh it is upside down all right. Red stripes should be at the bottom.”
Another commented: “The true state of the UK is upside down,” while a third added: “I doubt any of the staff accompanying or Starmer himself realise until it’s pointed out.”
Some, however, called it a “rank incompetence,” adding that the US is “already sending a distress signal”.

Looking at Union Jack flags elsewhere it does appear that someone made an error. But this wouldn’t be the first time that a similar mistake was made. For example, the flag was also upside down at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
Nonetheless, Sir Keir is likely to have more important issues on his mind.
The Prime Minister has already arrived at the White House and is expected to thrash out a deal on ending the war in .
Issues including the future of , trade tariffs and the proposed deal on the Chagos Islands – including the joint US-UK Diego Garcia base – are all potential traps for the Prime Minister in his talks with Mr Trump.
