The magician previously worked in the Household Cavalry to the royal family and frequently encountered at fancy parties. The future king even took part in one of Richard’s shows at Camden Roundhouse.
And since winning BGT in 2016 Richard keeps in regular contact with Cowell.
Explaining the similarities between the pair, the 34-year-old said: “The number one question I get asked is what is Simon Cowell like in real life and similarly to , he is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.
“Whenever I have been to events where Simon has been there he will do exactly what does.
“He will thank everyone, he will go round and on his way out, he’ll say bye to all the door staff, the hotel staff, the events team.
“He will try and sneak out under the radar but on his way out he will thank everyone and it really makes people’s day when they are not expecting that.
“So he is very similar to . It’s lovely to see people of their fame going out of their way to make people feel appreciated.”

In January 2024 the Princess of Wales underwent planned abdominal surgery for an undisclosed medical condition at the London Clinic before postponing all of her public engagements and duties.
Then in March through a video message filmed by Studios, she explained how post-operative tests had found cancer, and the palace said she had been undergoing chemotherapy since late February. Her medical leave from public engagements was extended before she made her first public appearance after her cancer diagnosis at the 2024 Trooping the Colour in June. In January she revealed her cancer was in remission.
Richard said: “They are the most beautiful, wonderful and inspiring couple ever. They are so kind. Whenever I have seen them or witnessed them at any event they are just making sure that they are super grateful and kind to everyone they meet.
“They go out of their way to make people smile and feel appreciated. I’ve got the most respect for them. Really inspiring.”
In 2016, Richard, who was still a serving soldier with the Household Cavalry, used military nostalgia in a twist on a classic trick, impressing judges and public enough to become the first magician ever to win BGT.
And he believes this year’s eight year old magic act Teddy Magic can win the show. Richard was so impressed he’s even thinking about offering him a role on his tour.
He said: “He was absolutely brilliant. What I loved about him was that he was so in control of that performance.
“Even when Simon made some jokes, some of that would have derailed a lot of magicians but he was focused and he brought everything back to what was going on.
“I was very impressed and I think he will do very well. I think he can win it, why not. I love to work with other musicians and especially new young magicians just starting out.”
Richard is just coming to the end of his 2024 tour called The Soldier of Illusion and starting his new show called The Sound of Magic.
