fans have issued a brutal verdict on new arrivals Lou and Mick Michaelis, with many viewers already calling for them to be axed from the soap.
Since their debut earlier this month, the so-called “nightmare neighbours” – played by Joe Layton and Farrel Hegarty – have ruffled feathers on the street.
The pair have established an early connection with Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and are set to stir up drama, with show bosses hinting at a mysterious link to detective Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
Despite their suspenseful introduction to the soap, fans are not convinced they should be on . Many have taken to social media to slam the new characters, branding them “pointless” and “over-exaggerated”.
One viewer asked fans: “What do we all think of newcomers Lou and Mick? Will they be long tenure characters? I know they have been added to cause disruption, but what type of trouble will they get up to? I am personally not a fan. I don’t think there needs to be new characters added. There’s already too many storylines on the go and good characters that we hardly see now.”

Another unimpressed fan added: “I can’t see them staying long because there’s no real story to them. Ok, so he drives the van and wants revenge on Chesney – then what?”
Another viewer slammed: “All I can say is I agree with all the comments on here. What did the producers/writers think? ‘Hey, we know what needs – some absolutely, totally pointless characters.’ Give us a break. It is getting to the point where is becoming totally pointless and quite frankly ludicrous now!”
Others believe the pair’s storyline is weak and unnecessary. Someone shared: “They seem to be what I would call cartoon characters. Over-exaggerated and trying to carry a ridiculous storyline.
“Why bring in new characters when you could reduce the cast size and focus more on some core characters? Improve the writing and get some realistic, captivating storylines going that have a narrative everyone can relate to.”

Some viewers are also concerned about the impact Mick and Lou’s arrival could have on existing cast members. One person fumed: “Don’t like them. Annoys me how we are gonna lose established characters just for these to replace them.”
Another agreed, stating: “Rubbish acting. Lou is too exaggerated and yes, I agree – we have so many stories unfinished and underused characters. I’d like them to leave ASAP.”
The backlash has only intensified, with some branding them “gobby and trashy,” while others claim they are nothing more than a “caricature of northerners”.
One particularly scathing review read: “In a word – vile. I absolutely detest them. But not in a ‘love to hate’ kind of way. I just think they’re utterly pointless and are clearly ’s desperate attempt at headline-grabbing. They’re just awful, scally scum.”
