Private investigator Aaron Bond, from Bond Rees Investigators, cautioned that the presence of has escalated in the past few years.
“We have encountered numerous cases where individuals have been unknowingly monitored or recorded without their permission,” Aaron cautioned.
This is why it’s crucial to do a once-over of where you’re staying the very moment you step inside the rental or room.
“Smoke detectors are a common hiding place because they provide an unobstructed view of the room,” said Aaron.
“If a smoke detector looks different from others in the hotel, or something feels off about it, inspect it more closely.”

Hidden cameras have also been found near “alarm clocks and TV screens” where they are plugged into the mains to feed off the power supply.
“We’ve seen cameras fitted into plug sockets and even phone chargers which have been left in a room,” said Aaron.
“These are very difficult to spot, but you can sometimes see a lens where a screw should be.”
Anybody staying in a new place should be vigilant when it comes to inspecting the space.

“Look for objects that seem out of place and look for small holes in walls, furniture or electronic devices; these are common hotspots for cameras,” said Aaron.
“One way to spot a hidden lens is to turn all the lights off in your room and then use your phone camera torch to scan the room.”
He explained: “The light from your torch will bounce off any camera lens making them easier to spot.
“You can also use the camera mode on your phone and scan each part of the room as infrared devices will get picked up on your screen.”
