Gerwyn Price darts fear raised as Luke Littler and Luke Humphries left on red alert

It’s been a pretty successful start to the 2025 Premier League Darts campaign for .

After having his inclusion in the tournament blasted by players and pundits alike, the Iceman has kept his cool and let his darts do the talking.

After three rounds of action, Price finds himself second in the rankings – a position boosted by last week’s victory in Dublin.

Price recorded one of the best weekly wins since the Premier League’s format change three years ago, knocking out Luke Littler and Luke Humphries in consecutive matches, before taking the title with a victory over Nathan Aspinall in the final.

Playing with a smile on his face once again, the Welshman appears to have shaken off the troubles that plagued him throughout the 2024 edition of the Premier League, in which he didn’t win a single night throughout the entire tournament.

Perhaps surprisingly, Price, who has so often been the pantomime villain in the eyes of darts crowds, has been somewhat of a crowd favourite in the opening few weeks of action.

That was certainly the case in Dublin last week, with : “For me they were amazing. But I guess to the likes of Luke Littler today they probably say different.

“But, you know, I get that everywhere I go for the last six years. I’m sure Luke and the rest of the boys will have plenty of support for the rest of the Premier League.”

That might not be the case for Price this week though, as for the first time this year, the Premier League is heading to England.

Price has been no stranger to criticism from the English crowd, with the most infamous occasion coming when he emerged from a break wearing ear defenders during a match at the 2023 World Championship.

Critics of the arrowsmith will say his bullish and enthusiastic on-stage presence puts people off, with the darts star known for his at-times overzealous celebrations.

But it’s no secret Price has received hostile treatment from crowds in England previously and if fans in Exeter give the 2021 world champion a rough time of it, both Littler and Humphries will be on standby to capitalise.

Humphries faces the in-form Price in the opening round of tonight’s (Thursday) action, while Littler is on the opposite side of the draw.

Something the teen is no doubt thankful for, given Price has beaten him in each of their previous five meetings across all competitions.
