The family of Gene Hackman said they believe the legendary actor, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog may have been poisoned in a suspected gas leak.
The -winning actor, 95, and his wife, 64, were found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday afternoon.
Gene’s daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, said on Thursday that the family believes carbon monoxide poisoning caused their deaths.
Elizabeth, who is also an actress, told TMZ that while the couple’s cause of death remains unknown, they think it could be due to inhaling toxic fumes.
She added that police did not find any signs of foul play at the actor’s home but will continue their investigations.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed that Gene, his wife and dog were all found dead at the scene after a neighbour raised concerns. It was determined that the bodies had been there for at least a day and “no visible trauma was discovered”.
