Bryson DeChambeau LIV Golf rumour gets fiery five-word response from Lee Westwood

Lee Westwood branded rumours that had a mega £228million contract extension rejected by as “codswallop”.

The reigning champion has been with the breakaway series for just over two years, but gossip has spread concerning his future with the tour.

Various reports state that his contract expires at the end of next year and claims that he wants over £200m to continue his stay with LIV or could rejoin the .

Westwood, who was one of the first big names to make the jump to LIV, rejected such a notion on X (formerly known as Twitter) by responding to the rumour with: “Codswallop is very applicable here.”

DeChambeau, 31, agreed to a multi-year deal with LIV in 2022 that reportedly included a £100m signing-on fee. However, he sits just fifth on the overall list of highest-paid golfers within the series.

, who shocked the golfing world when he announced his switch in December 2023, leads the way after reportedly accepting a £237m offer.

He is followed by Phil Mickelson, who banked £158m and was the highest-paid player before Rahm’s arrival.

Brooks Koepka (£102m) received slightly more than DeChambeau after the latter reportedly joined for the same fee (£100m) as Dustin Johnson when the American made the controversial move.

DeChambeau , having reinvested his wealth into numerous business ventures.

While speaking to the Country Club Adjacent podcast, DeChambeau said: “What’s cool about it though is that I’ve already put it [the money] in places that make sense.

“Whether it’s my foundation, or real estate, being able to build a multi-sport complex, or taking care of my family, taking care of what we’ve got going with our content creation Regecy, numerous other things too. So, it’s already moved. I’m again broke.”

Though Westwood has played down the idea that PIF rejected DeChambeau’s proposal, it could stoke some fear that their top stars with contracts set to expire in the coming years, may return to the PGA Tour.

Even is predicting that those defectors will return, perhaps with their tails between their legs.

“Things are going to heal quickly,” Woods said after PGA chiefs met with President . “We’re going to get this game going in the right ­direction. It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years. The fans want all the top ­players playing together and we’re going to make that happen.”

Asked if a reunification could ­happen soon, potentially in 2025, Woods added: “Yes and yes.”
