Strike is based on the book series Cormoran Strike by JK Rowling, under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The programme, first broadcast in 2017, follows a war veteran turned private detective (played by Tom Burke) who solves complex cases along with his assistant, Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger).

Set on the Shetland Islands in Scotland, the crime drama focuses on detectives Jimmy Pérez (Douglas Henshall), Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen), and others as they investigate the grisly events that unfold. Shetland first broadcast in 2013 to wide acclaim and has received two BAFTA gongs.

The Night Manager

2. The Night Manager

The BBC drama has an all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman and follows Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), night manager of a luxury hotel and former British soldier, as he is recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper (Laurie). The 2016 show, which has been renewed for another series, won a slew of awards, including two Primetime Emmys and three Golden Globe Awards.

Silent Witness

1. Silent Witness

Silent Witness focuses on a team of forensic pathology experts (Emilia Fox, David Caves, Jason Wong) and their investigations into various crimes. The series was created by Nigel McCrery, a former murder squad detective based in Nottingham, and since its initial release in 1996, 28 series have been broadcast.
