legend Thierry Henry and his team of CBS Sports pundits were shocked when presenter Kate Abdo revealed her childhood celebrity crush.
Abdo and Henry were joined by the usual suspects, and Micah Richards, during the broadcaster’s recent round of Champions League coverage. And they allowed themselves a moment to discuss something other than football when conversation turned to which well-known figures had once caught their eye.
Under pressure from Henry, Carragher and Richards to come out with a name, Abdo confessed: “I already said, Ian Wright!”
The presenter, who became Kate Scott upon marrying boxing trainer Malik Scott last September, was so embarrassed that she covered her face with her cue cards. “Wow,” replied a shocked Henry. “Now we know.”
Richards jumped in with: “You didn’t say that! Hold on!” And Carragher added: “Wait… I thought he was [just] your favourite pundit!”
Since the clip began circulating, an old of Abdo and Wright side by side during the 2018 World Cup has resurfaced online. The picture uploaded by Abdo is captioned: “Love me some Ian Wright.”

Henry was the player drafted in by Arsene Wenger to replace Wright at . Abdo’s childhood crush was presumed irreplaceable after netting 185 goals in 288 games for the Gunners between 1991 and 1998.
But Henry put up similarly impressive numbers, and by the end of his spell in north London, he had knocked Wright off the top of the all-time scorers list with 226 strikes in 370 matches. Barring various coaching spells for Henry, both men have moved primarily into punditry since retiring, with Wright more commonly seen on the and ITV while his French counterpart regularly appears on CBS.
On his goals record being toppled by Henry, Wright said in 2020: “When I got to I wasn’t even expecting to get that far. I just wanted to get the shirt and prove I was good enough to play at a club at that level.
“To end up being the top scorer in their history was amazing. I did not even realise the enormity of what I had done until Thierry broke the record. You look at a player of Thierry’s calibre, and that is what it took. I can live with that.”
