A plane flying over the UK sent a distress signal due to a “mechanical failure”.

Flight PGT38X from Istanbul initiated the emergency call as it approached its destination at Manchester Airport.

Unconfirmed footage on social media appeared to show Pegasus Airlines aircraft trailing smoke from the wheels when it touched down.

‘Fire trucks positioned on the runway’

Antony Ochieng, an airport technician based in Nairobi in Kenya, posting on X, claimed: “Pegasus A320 is currently heading for Manchester Airport RWY23L shortly.

“Fire trucks are already positioned near 23L for this emergency landing.”
