After spending a small fortune to jet away to a seaside resort, the last thing you want to do is miss out on the fun because you don’t want to leave your valuables unattended.
But one has shared a ‘sneaky’ solution to keep your phone, money and keys safe when relaxing on the or swimming in the sea.
Responding to the thread, ‘How do you keep valuables safe while relaxing on a beach alone?’, she simply said: “Get a nappy and put your stuff in it and wrap it up, no one wants to touch it.”
In agreement, another user said: “That was my mum’s trick in the 1980s. She was never robbed.” Taking it one step further, one user added: “Just wipe some Nutella on the edges.”
However, some people believe this trick has been overused so much that thieves have caught on to it, with one adding: “Diaper is an old trick. It’s the first place I’d look for someone’s stuff.”

Sharing another method, one user said: “When I’m alone at the beach, I hide my valuables in a waterproof pouch and bury it a bit in the sand, leaving a little marker for myself. Hope these tips help!”
While others argue that you shouldn’t bring anything to the beach that you’re not willing to lose as you can never ensure an item’s safety when it’s left unattended. One user said: “Don’t bring valuables to the beach it your going to swim or whatever unless your group is is big enough you can take turns watching stuff.”
Another user added: “I usually keep my stuff in the car except my phone. However, my phone is on lock and it has a GPS so needless to say that it’s not worth stealing. Never had anything stolen from me before and it’s always better to go to the beach with someone anyways especially when you go swimming.”
One more user said: “I bring a small water proof bag for my phone and wallet and I keep it under my neck as a pillow when I nap. Tie it around my waste for swimming. For a towel, I always use a wrap. I use the wrap as a swimsuit cover then I lay it on the sand as a blanket. Then I use it to dry off and wrap it back up as a dress to leave. The wrap is cheap so I don’t care as much if I lose it. I just leave it on the beach when I go in the water with my dirty flip flops.”
