Martin Kemp revealed he “moved into the spare room” as his wife Shirlie battled an illness.
The former Spandau Ballet bassist said Shirlie felt like “an electric blanket” after she was battling a bug. He made the revelation as son Roman explained he was “suffering” and “keeps getting ill”.
On the FFS, My Dad is podcast, Roman explained he likes to “go for a run” when he feels unwell. Martin says it helps “get the adrenaline pumping” but admitted Shirlie was too unwell to exercise.
He shared: “Mum was ill last week. She could not get out of bed, she must have been like 100 degrees.
“At one point, I had to move out of our bedroom and into the spare bedroom because it felt like there was an electric blanket in the bed, but it wasn’t, it was mum, and she could never have gone for a run. But I know what you’re saying. You’ve got to have a positive mental attitude.”

Martin also reminisced about his childhood in Islington, London, where he grew up without central heating and used a paraffin fire for warmth – a practice he now deems “outrageously dangerous”, reports .
Nowadays, the 63-year-old opts for a safer approach when feeling unwell, preferring to “go home, watch This Morning, and get a little cup of soup going”.
The star, Roman Kemp, opened up about his childhood memories, feeling short of parental sympathy when he was unwell, confessing: “You didn’t have any sympathy for me when I was ill. Never.”
He recollected how his mother would end up taking him home from school, saying: “There were times when I was genuinely ill and you would say ‘go to school’ and then I would go to school and mum would bring me home.”

His father, Martin Kemp, however, hinted at his son’s tendency to exaggerate, claiming that Roman often used illness as an excuse after late nights, and said: “Two times a week, every week, you would say ‘I’m too ill’.”
Martin continued to express his past suspicions, adding: “I knew for a fact your had been up on your computer all night and you were knackered, I knew. I didn’t know whether you were sick or not.”
Martin Kemp, known for his time in Spandau Ballet, and Shirlie Holliman, of Wham! background vocalist fame and one-half of the 1980s act Pepsi and Shirlie, tied the knot in 1988. They are parents to both Roman and their daughter Harley Moon.
