Tonight’s episode of was a tearjerker as the homeowners explained the reason for appearing on the show. The couple admitted that their daughter was frequently “left in tears” as they considered what would be best for their family and their home.
Anne-Marie and Paul bought their charming-but-challenging 1920s three-bedroom home six years ago, right before the arrival of their first child. The property was a doer-upper but was still yet to be done up.
Paul was sick of the “drab” wallpaper and outdated styles and with their cicrumstances changing, he felt it was time to leave their Milton Keynes home behind. With having to ensure a twice-a-week 160-mile commute to Manchester, the show’s guest was ready to List It, with the help of and Phil Spencer.
Explaining his decision, he shared a heartbreaking story about how the family’s current situation impacts them all. Speaking into the camera, he said: “When I’m going up to work, I’ll leave just before the kids go to bed.
“Every time my daughter is in floods of tears as I’m leaving and it rips my heart out. It would be genuinely amazing if we could alleviate that.”
His partner, Anne-Marie, agreed as she addd: “It would be great if Paul was here more.” However, she pointed out that her friends and family – her support network – are in the area that they currently live.
With family close by and a belief in the house’s untapped potential, she was clearly clinging to her dream and counting on Kirstie to work her magic and convince Paul to fall in love with their home again.
Fans online sympathised for the couple and their predicament. Posting to X (formerly Twitter), one viewer said: “I can’t imagine ever loving a job enough to work 160 miles away and be away from home 3 nights a week.”
However, others thought it would be a good idea for them to move, with one commenting: “If they stay their life is still as difficult with his travel and her working and looking after kids. And she works from home so could do that in Manchester. #lioli.”
Someone else said: “Today the main decision is whether or not the wife will continue to be selfish and prioritise her children actually getting to spend time with their dad and make memories. That’s worth far more than massive amount toys and tat they have spread everywhere. #LIOLI.”
