A has taken to to share an unconventional yet particularly effective way of , and it only takes a few seconds to do.

has been a mechanic for more than 55 years and regularly posts videos to his YouTube channel in which he offers advice to and less troublesome.

In , Scotty recommended that drivers remove a small fuse from underneath the bonnet, which will make the vehicle .

He advised: “If you’re leaving your car for a while, open the fuse box and pull out the electronic fuel injection relay.

“The car will not start, and not will be carrying a fuel injection relay for your specific model when they’re out stealing cars!”

Whilst drivers should only try this trick for themselves if they are confident, removing the electronic fuel injection (EFI) relay will mean that the engine will refuse to start if a thief tries to break in.

This is because, without the relay fitted in its correct place, no petrol or diesel will reach the engine, causing the vehicle to crank but never fire up.

Nevertheless, whilst Scotty recommended the tip for drivers who leave their vehicle unattended for long periods of time, it is vital that motorists who try this trick out for themselves keep the fuse safe and know exactly where to put it back.

Later in the video, Scotty also suggested that drivers do not leave their car keys out of their sight for longer than necessary, particularly by keeping them inside of their car.

He added: “Don’t let anybody have your key for any length of time, including valet parking. They can make a copy of it, and then later they could steal your car.

“And when you leave your car, never leave your keys in there. There are so many cars which are stolen every year by people who just leave their keys in their car!”

Whilst most drivers understand that leaving their keys inside their car is a foolish thing to do, the mistake is a common cause of vehicle thefts each year.

In these cases, car insurance companies are very unlikely to pay out for any claims, considering the owner to be irresponsible when looking after their car.

Similarly, drivers who own a vehicle with keyless entry should remember to store their keys well away from the vehicle or use a Faraday pouch in order to prevent the signals created by the fob from reaching the vehicle.
