The Reds face the fifth-placed Magpies in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley next month and are seeking back-to-back league wins for the first time this month.

After beating at the Etihad on Sunday, – whose side unbeaten in 23 Premier League games since September 14 – could make some changes in their midweek fixture. Express Sport takes a look at them…

Goalkeeper: Alisson

Alisson has not kept a Premier League clean sheet at Anfield since December 1, when also beat 2-0. There have been five games since then, with the Brazilian leaking seven times in that spell.

In the pursuit of the Golden Glove, Alisson trails Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels by three. He conceded three times at St James’ Park however and will find it tricky to keep the likes of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon out.

Defence: Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas

With Conor Bradley out injured, will be asked to go again at right-back, as will first-half centre-backs Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

But Slot could make a tweak at left-back to spare the ageing Andy Robertson an exhausting outing against Jacob Murphy. Kostas Tsimikas could be brought in with the Scot having started four games in the last 15 days – amassing 323 of a possible 360 minutes.

Midfield: Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Jones

Slot will be worry about overloading Ryan Gravenberch after his recent exertions but this is not the game to drop the Dutchman for Wataru Endo. That opportunity will come at home to Southampton on Saturday.

Alexis Mac Allister, , will partner Gravenberch but marathon man Dominik Szoboszlai, who was visibly exhausted at full-time against City, could drop to the bench after four 90s in a row.

Curtis Jones is likelier to start in the No.10 role than Harvey Elliott but his compatriot will hope for some more minutes off the bench.
