Experts at fuel additives specialist stressed there was a series of “unspoken rules” refuelling that road users must follow.

They stressed that it might be tempting to do a quick shop while paying for fuel but this could hold up other road users waiting in line.
This is especially an issue at peak times than during the day.
They revealed road users who really needed to pick up a few bits should consider moving their vehicle to one of the available parking spaces beforehand instead of sitting in the petrol station.
Next, Redex stressed road users should make sure to use any free pump when they become free.

Just waiting for a hose to appear on the side where the fuel cap is located could lead to unnecessary delays with hoses likely to stretch at most petrol stations.
Redex explained: “When you’re at a fuel station with extra long hoses, be sure to use any available pumps. This helps to reduce delays and minimise queues, and is a perfectly safe way to refuel your car.”
Next, the specialists said motorists should “pick a lane” as quickly as possible to ensure they are not holding up traffic.
Redex added: “With the above point in mind, it can be annoying when you’re stuck behind someone who’s taking their time to fill up, but it’s important that you pick a lane and don’t hog the entrance area waiting to see which pump might become free first. This can lead to accidents and annoyance for those waiting patiently.”
Finally, motorists have been told to make sure to “avoid distractions” and ensure filling up is the priority.
Redex explained: “Anything else can wait until you have finished at the pump and have pulled up elsewhere.”
