One of the most anti-immigrant contestants on Channel 4’s controversial Go Back to Where You Came From has revealed he’s had a major change of heart in the series’ final episode.
Trucker Nathan, who has admitted he was “so blasé about the topic of immigration” and only “cared about the elements of it that affected him” has been visiting some of the most dangerous places in the world to learn more about the perilous journeys faced by migrants seeking entry into the UK.
But the burly Barnsley native was seen breaking down in tears on Monday (February 24) admitting: “I’ve been so wrong.”
Nathan wiped tears away as he witnessed families living in squalor, willing to risk their lives on a dingy to enter the UK.
“We’re just so f*****g lucky. Life’s a raffle some get good some get bad. We’ve got it more than f*****g good mate.
“I’ve been stumped at every corner, these kids risking their f*****g life it shouldn’t be happening. It’s not right. Make it safe, make it legal. these poor kids man.”

The group, consisting of Nathan, Mathilda, Jess, Dave, Chloe and Bushra, were seen visiting Calais and various slums around France as immigrants attempted to sneak into the UK on boats. Many told stories of near-death experiences, being thrown off boats and risking their lives holding onto a moving truck’s undercarriage just to escape their war torn nations.
“At the beginning of this did I ever think I would change my opinion? not even a little but,” Nathan said as he wiped away tears.
“But f**k me, I have and I’m proud of myself for that.”
Fans were gushing over Nathan’s change of heart. “I never thought I would be agreeing with Nathan! Yes Nathan; ‘MAKE IT SAFE, MAKE IT LEGAL!’ He’s awake! ‘Life is a raffle’” said one fan on X.
Another penned: “I am gobsmacked! Nathan, we’ve had a breakthrough!!”

Another fan also sympathised with Dave’s plight after he explained to viewers that truckers and their companies would be fined a large fee for every migrant found on their trucks, which causes a lot of hardship.
“I do sympathise with Nathan’s view on lorries. That’s why there has to be more safe routes and more opportunities for people to begin the asylum seeking process before they’ve been approached by people smuggling gangs.”
Fellow traveller Dave also shared his shocking change of heart as the series ended: “I were naïve, bit of a t**t to be fair. A lot of this stuff is gunna haunt me and it’s gunna take a long time to get out of my head.
“Maybe it should never get out of my head. It’s something I think I needed to see, I needed to understand. Next time I see an illegal immigrant I’m going to buy them a curry and make sure they’re warm and ok.”
