1923 saw Spencer Dutton (played by Brandon Sklenar) find love with a British woman named Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) who left her fiancé. The pair attempted to cross the perilous sea in a bid to help the Duttons in Montana.
Season two is due to air on February 23 and it will see Spencer and Alex make their separate journeys after they were separated at sea.
Spencer is still trying to make it home to Montana following a distressing letter from Cara (Helen Mirren), who feared the ranch would soon be lost. Meanwhile, Alex promised Spencer she would find him and the second season is likely to follow her in her attempt to be reunited with her husband.

How is Spencer Dutton related to John Dutton?
Spencer Dutton moved away from the ranch in Montana when he joined the war effort and risked his life for his country.
Although he came out physically unscathed, he was left mentally scarred by the ordeal.
Working as a hunter of large prey in Africa, he was worlds away from his family back at the ranch.
As one of the breakout stars of the series, fans are wondering how he is related to John Dutton from the original series.
Spencer Dutton is the younger son of James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) from the 1883 series.
He is also the younger brother of John Dutton Sr (James Badge Dale).

As James Dutton from 1883 was John Dutton’s great-grandfather, this makes Spencer one of John’s grandfathers.
Either he or his brother John Sr will have a child who will turn out to be John Dutton’s father, who has been seen in flashbacks in the original series.
Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) has often written to Spencer asking him why he left the family.
She admitted she thought about him all the time when she was feeling isolated.
Viewers will have to wait and see whether Spencer makes the trip back to visit his family in Montana.
