Skirting boards are a critical part of decor as they frame the bottom of your wall.

However, there’s no doubt that your skirting boards can sometimes be a real nightmare.

If you prefer the more intricate and detailed skirting boards, you will notice a large build-up of dust in the finer details of the board.

Professionals at Calibre Cleaning have claimed that tumble dryer sheets are a “go-to” in this situation.

Although, quite an unusual suggestion, can work well at removing and preventing a large dust build-up.

The idea is that if you rub a laundry dryer sheet over clean skirting boards this will help prevent dust from sticking and building up due to the static nature of them.

Aside from “repelling dust”, tumble dryer sheets will also make your home smell incredible.

They said: “Tumble dryer sheets are packed with antibacterial properties and are perfect for repelling odours and dust, so you don’t need to clean as frequently. They also leave a fresh scent behind and make your room smell great.”

The pros claim that skirting boards “won’t need dusting for three months” if you carry out this five-minute task three to four times a year.

However, if your skirting boards have grease and stains, a water and soap solution can “work wonders” on them.

Mix water and soap in a bucket, then dip the sponge into the mixture and wring it out thoroughly.

Wipe across the board’s surface and repeat the process until your boards are completely clean.

When finished, wipe away any foam left behind by your sponge with a slightly damp cloth, and use a microfibre cloth to dry the boards.

Alternatively, if you have a steam cleaner, it also works great. Steam cleaners are “highly effective for removing smudges and dirt” from various surfaces. The steam softens stains, which can be wiped away effortlessly.

However, to be safe, we recommend testing the steam cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area of your skirting board to ensure that the paint is not damaged.
