Escape From Pretoria will kick off the week as the first major thriller addition. Based on a true story, it recounts a prison escape by three political prisoners in South Africa in 1979, reports .
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe portrays Tim Jenkin, who penned the book about the ordeal after being arrested and jailed for protesting against apartheid. The film initially hit cinemas in 2020 but may have slipped under the radar for many potential viewers as it was released just before the UK’s lockdowns.
Escape from Pretoria has notched a commendable 73% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with one viewer admitting it left them “in need of a lie down. Intense suspenseful edge of your seat thriller.”
Another viewer similarly praised the film, likening it to an iconic movie: “I place this title right next to my favourite Shawshank Redemption. Radcliff and the two other escapees show so much intensity I was worried that the actors will get a heart attack. Either them or me.”
Escape from Pretoria is streaming on from February 26
