Environment Canada issued an updated wind warning on Monday morning, warning of damage or power outages due to strong winds.
A wind warning is in effect for much of Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast on Monday, with gusting winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour expected.
The warning covers Metro Vancouver, stretching from the North Shore to Langley and south to Richmond and Delta. Warnings are also issued for the Greater Victoria, eastern Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Southern Gulf Islands.
According to the warning, a low pressure system will approach Vancouver Island on Monday afternoon and track across the island overnight. Southeasterly winds of 70 gusting up to 90 kilometres an hour are due in the evening, but will ease on Tuesday morning as the system moves inland.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches,” read the alert.
As of Monday midday, there were no delays or cancellations for B.C. Ferries due to weather, and no B.C. Hydro outages due to weather.
More to come.
