Matt Tebbutt calls for Naga Munchetty to be ‘cut off’ after awkward on-air encounter

BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt found themselves in an awkward exchange with Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt during a live crossover.

Matt confirmed that Irish author Marian Keyes was appearing on his show, prompting Naga to suggest he “could have prepared better”.

When Matt asked if she had any questions for Marian, Naga retorted: “I just think you could have prepared better Matt.”

Matt defended himself saying, “I mean this is not a time to critique me”, but Naga continued her critique, pointing out the absence of references to Keyes’ books in the studio.

However, Matt interrupted to inform Naga they did have sushi in the studio, referencing Keyes’ book “Sushi for Beginners.”, adding “So in your face.”

After some cheering from the Saturday Kitchen team, Naga pointed out another missed reference, leading Matt to jokingly ask: “Can we cut her off now? ” before the camera returned to the Breakfast studio where Charlie quipped to Naga: “He’s laughing on the outside.”

Earlier in the episode, Charlie had to abruptly end his interview with former UK ambassador to Simon Smith due to breaking news, reports the Mirror.

The anchor cut in with urgency: “Simon, I appreciate your time this morning and your expertise and I apologise for interrupting you but we’ve got to go straight to Gaza where the latest handover of the hostages looks like is about to begin.”
