believes that will be under slightly less pressure in 2025 due to the limited technical feedback needed for the 2026 cars. The Australian rookie’s future is already up in the air, with heavily linked to his seat.

Doohan was signed to replace Haas-bound at the end of the season. Still, after an understated debut at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, reports emerged that Flavio Briatore and Oliver Oakes could replace the Australian after just five or six races in 2025.

The speculation ramped up when Alpine signed Colapinto from Williams on a long-term contract, adding him to a growing pool of talented young reserve drivers. The Argentinian racer, who made his debut midway through the 2024 season, is primed to take Doohan’s seat if he starts poorly.

However, according to Gasly, Doohan shouldn’t worry too much. “The advantage is that with the end of the regulations, our technical feedback will not impact next year’s car,” he explained to AutoHebo.

“On that side, it takes a little pressure off Jack. For him, it will be more important to focus on driving. Technically, he’s good. Based on what I’ve seen in the last two years, on the simulator tests, he gives good technical feedback every time. Logical.”

Doohan addressed the questions about his future at the F1 75 Live event in London last week. Speaking to media, including Express Sport, he said: “I’ve been told that he (Colapinto) is reserve driver.

“And regardless, you’re one of 20 Formula One drivers in the world, and I know when I was a go-karter and in Formula Three, Formula Two, I would do anything to be in Formula One and sacrifice everything.

“So I don’t think necessarily someone inside the team, outside the team, anyone who is performing well… you’re always going to have pressure on your shoulders because you’re in such a cut-throat sport. Whatever pressure there may be, I look forward to enjoying that, embracing it, and just enjoying my Formula One season.”

The Gold Coast-born star was then asked whether Colapinto’s arrival undermined him. He replied: “I was a 21-year-old reserve driver last year with a long-term contract (like Colapinto). But no, I don’t. Maybe I should.”

Doohan’s rookie year will get underway in style with his home race. Alongside ’s Oscar Piastri, the 22-year-old will be one of two Australian drivers on the grid in Melbourne next month.
