Selling your home is not an easy feat, and and of your property itself can often influence how smooth the sale is.
One of the most important factors to consider when selling up is is paint colour – and it could even be making your home worth less.
Some 41% of British homeowners worry that their i would impact the when it’s time to sell up, with nearly half agreeing that front door colour alone has an impact on the chances of a potential buyer making an offer.
Ronseal’s and brand manager Clara Dursent has shared three colours that can cheapen the value of your home and make it hard to sell – as well as the colours that will make that property fly off the market.
Here are three colours you should think twice about painting your home.

Pink
The first colour that could be cheapening your home is pink.
Clara said: “Pink gained a lot of popularity in the last two years after the success of Barbie; however, the colour is best kept in small doses rather than painted across an entire room as it can be quite an overpowering colour.”
Black
On the other end of the spectrum is black. She said: ““Black is a modern and sophisticated colour, used increasingly in interior decor in the past few years. It’s very good at making a home look cosy, but this can cause the room to appear smaller than it is, which is worth considering if you’re trying to sell your home.”
Yellow
Finally, the third colour that could be making it harder to sell your home is yellow. Clara said: “Yellow is typically regarded as a happy and uplifting colour, however, its intensity means overusing or incorrectly using it could put potential buyers off, so it’s best to avoid painting every wall yellow, instead look to paint alcoves or upcycle furniture.”

To make your home more appealing to buyers she suggests plain white, or warm neutral tones to make the space open and inviting.
Sage and emerald greens are also popular. She said:“Sage and emerald green shades have become the go-to for many homeowners wanting to modernise their interiors. It therefore sends an immediate signal to potential buyers that this home has been looked after and regularly updated, making it a great colour to go with when selling your home.”
If you are lucky enough to have a home with period features such as original wood floors or cornices then Clara says it is important to keep them.
“The preservation of period features, like cornices and the original floorboards or tiles, is a huge selling point for many people. However, the last decade has seen a shift in homeowners seeking to modernise their homes and make them super cosy with plush carpets and marble tiles. If your home is lucky enough to come with any of these original features, try to keep them intact and avoid laying carpet on top that could damage the floor underneath.”
