‘I played for Man Utd under Sir Alex Ferguson – even he would have struggled this season’

Former striker Louis Saha has defended by claiming that even would have struggled to get a tune out of the current squad. Amorim has endured a nightmare start to life as United’s head coach, losing eight of his last 12 games to slump in 15th.

The Red Devils’ continued defeats have incredibly sparked debate over whether he will still be at Old Trafford next season.

However, a large section of the club’s fanbase is adamant that Amorim is right to stay true to his philosophy and 3-4-3 system, which turned Sporting into Portugal’s dominant force.

The Portuguese boss is United’s sixth since Ferguson, and he is the latest to inherit a squad crafted by his predecessor that is in need of reshaping.

While not many expected Amorim’s start to have gone as badly, there is a widespread acceptance that he needs time to recruit players who suit his style of football and offload those who don’t fit the bill.

And when asked how Ferguson would turn the current mess at United around, Saha is convinced that the legendary Scot wouldn’t find it easy to get Amorim’s squad in line.

He told Best Betting Sites: “Fergie could get the most of his players with direct communication, but he was working in a different era.

“I can sense that in some situations in the last few years, the mentality was not the same as we had. Things that sit outside the football pitch are so important now.

“Sir Alex Ferguson would have struggled with that, and he would struggle to have an impact on this group of players because some of these guys don’t have the right attitude or mentality.

“He would have said, in terms of mentality, I’m here to guide these players in terms of being courageous, being positive and being able to show that they are able to take risks.

“He would have called on his leaders to address individuals, to set standards and show leadership.”

Saha added that Ferguson seldom had to manage a dressing room in such disarray due to his relentless success at developing winners across his three decades at the helm.

“This United squad is not as equipped as we were, so it’s difficult,” Saha, who played for the Red Devils from 2004 to 2008, continued.

“Sir Alex would never have encountered a dressing room like this one, and he would have never found himself in this situation because he was a winner who built winning teams.

“I understand why legends like are frustrated. We have made too many mistakes over the last decade. We’ve taken our eye off the ball and have been thinking that we are like a business.

“We didn’t have these problems, so it’s really hard for me to say Sir Alex Ferguson would have done this and that.”
