Four key fashion designers that are the crown jewels of Princess Kate’s wardrobe

Ever since burst onto the scene she has managed to spark fashion frenzies. Over the years she has redefined the modern-day Princess and wrote her very own rule book on the royal wardrobe.

The 43-year-old has transformed her image from preppy university looks and developed a keen eye for show-stopping ensembles. Today, she often resembles an elegant woman of society who many look up to wearing outfits that often pique our interests.

The Princess of Wales’s timeless taste is often referred to as elegant and sophisticated. Her wardrobe bursts with vibrant colours and floral prints that bring the former monarch, sartorial codes into the 21st Century.

She has quite perfectly . In turn this has cemented her status as a global fashion icon as she not only makes her wardrobe  

Over the years she has curated many iconic looks and has counted on the likes of luxury designers: Alexander McQueen, Alessandra Rich, Catherine Walker and Jenny Packham. Not only do these key brands serve the Princess as a cohesive source of support when she steps out for official engagements, but they also offer proclivity for emerging British designers, too.

Alexander McQueen

Princess Kate’s love affair with Alexander McQueen began when the then creative director Sarah Burton was asked to design her wedding gown when she tied the knot with back in 2011, during their nuptials at Westminster Abbey.

It is thought that she instructed the label because of the brand’s craftsmanship, tailoring, and feminine silhouettes.

Meanwhile, the queen-in-waiting wanted to incorporate tradition and modernity. Sarah Burton went on to design countless designs for significant royal appearances including her 40th birthday portrait which was featured in Vogue and her outfit for the King’s Coronation.

Alessandra Rich

Alessandra Rich is an Italian-born fashion designer based in London. She is renowned for combining Italian craftsmanship while mixing a Parisian allure, and British rebelliousness.

The label was established in 2010 but caught the eye of the Princess eight years later, it is believed she owns a number of their gowns. She first wore a dark blue polka-dot dress with a white collar for Prince Charles’s birthday portrait in 2018

This also paid tribute to the late Princess Diana as she wore a strikingly similar design. Diana looked so stunning when she attended a polo match in Cirencester back in August 1983.

Meanwhile, also wore a Victorian-sleeve houndstooth dress and a floral-print peplum dress worn while in in the Bahamas in 2022 as part of their Caribbean tour.

Catherine Walker

Over the years Kate’s style has evolved to reflect her role as the Princess of Wales and future Queen.

Earlier this year, it was announced that she would no longer be sharing details of her outfits at public engagements to streamline the attention to her work and causes.

The Sunday Times reported that a source from Kensington Palace said they “will no longer release details of her outfits” due to Kate’s “wish for the focus to be on her work, not her wardrobe.”

Although, Kate’s team may share outfit details for significant occasions, like royal tours or when hosting visiting heads of state to shed light on the designer’s efforts.

Jenny Packham

Many of Princess Kate’s dazzling evening looks have been created by Jenny Packham. She is a London-based designer known for her eye-catching eveningwear.

From star-studded galas to film premieres and royal tours – Kate has brought along Jenny’s designs.

The label first started in 1988 and Princess Kate has relied on Jenny Packham designs throughout her entire Royal career.

She first donned a blush sequin gown to the ARK 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner in London back in 2011 and has gone on to wow onlookers in the label ever since. Her most recent look was when she made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Trooping the Colour Service and donned an elegant white long-sleeved gown which featured a black striped bow across the chest.
