Escape to the Country couple left in tears as dream home breaks BBC show rules

One house-hunting couple on ’s were left in tears as they discovered their dream home on the programme.

Although buyer Maryan was left “emotional” as she saw the grand property for the first time, her happy tears almost turned to sad ones when presenter Jules Hudson explained that it went against some of the show rules.

Guests Maryan and Michael were shown around various properties with a budget of £650,000, before landing on their dream home. They were searching for a big plot of land with enough room for a bike store and a workshop for their mountain bike business.

Maryan wanted a magnificent staircase, while the couple needed at least three bedrooms between them.

Finally, one property located in Grantown-on-Spey had Maryan in tears as she spotted the beautiful staircase. She admitted: “Oh my goodness, I feel quite emotional, that’s something else!”

The five-bed Edwardian detached house featured restored period features but had been renovated to merge with a more modern style. It even featured a huge fireplace with a drinks cabinet built in.

The newer wing of the house featured an ultra-modern kitchen and dining area, while the upstairs bedrooms also featured mantlepieces.

Maryan gushed: “When I walked through the front door I was taken aback by the splendour, the greatness of the hallway. This property immediately gave me that feeling of just being home, of being hugged, and just being really welcoming.”

But Jules had a blow to deliver – the house wasn’t exactly in-keeping with the show’s usual guidelines. Jules pointed out that as it was in the middle of a town – though set back from the road – they technically weren’t “escaping to the country”.

The house came with a price tag of £560,000 – which the couple could easily afford. Michael joked: “We can have a yacht as well as have the business, have the house – we’re done!” They promised to come back for a second visit – despite the potential rule break.
