Claudia Winkleman struggled to contain her tears on the latest instalment of Channel 4’s One Question. The beloved TV star was visibly moved as a father-daughter team clinched a life-changing £100,000 prize on the quiz show.
Dave and Emily from Lancashire featured on Friday’s (February 21) airing of One Question, quickly becoming record-breakers by securing victory in a mere six minutes. The gameplay involves facing just one question with 16 possible answers to sift through.
Tasked with answering the question, “What is Smith?”, the duo knew it was the name behind the classic tale of The Hundred and One Dalmations without considering the other options, thus writing themselves into the annals of the show.
As the suspense grew, Claudia, 53, couldn’t help but encourage them: “If you know it, you’ll win awards for not even looking at the other answers. You do whatever you want, but that’s £100,000. That’s a bungalow, and that’s your wife doing cartwheels.”

Once they locked in their answer, an overwhelmed Claudia confessed: “I can’t cope. I’m sorry I can’t leave. You are amazing. I’m sorry I don’t know why I want to cry, this is ridiculous.”
She then declared: “This has never happened before in One Question history. You can absolutely say that is the answer. If you are right, I give you £100,000. You phone your wife immediately, you phone your partner immediately. I go home for a lie down.”
Emily trusted her instincts and correctly guessed Dodie Smith, to which her father encouragingly responded: “Doesn’t matter either way, I’ll still love you.”
The announcement of Emily and Dave’s £100,000 win left Claudia visibly moved, as she called the achievement “extraordinary”, reports .
Claudia was astounded by Emily’s intellect, exclaiming: “Oh my gosh… What a brain! That has never happened before. Your brain served you well and do you know what else did? Your dad who just sat next to you and said, ‘I’ve got your back, go for it.’ That’s life-changing money. That’s a lot of money and you did that in under six minutes,” praising both Emily’s smarts and her father’s support.

Dave, the proud father, couldn’t hold back his tears when asked about the win, emotionally telling Claudia: “‘I’m just happy for her,” referring to his daughter Emily.
