The electronic petition calls for Musk’s citizenship status and Canadian passport to be revoked “effective immediately.”

A parliamentary petition calling on the federal government to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship has garnered more than 187,000 signatures in just four days.

“The attempts of Elon Musk to attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed,” the petition reads.

The petition, which is sponsored by NDP MP Charlie Angus of Timmons-James Bay in Ontario, requires just 500 signatures before it can be presented in the House of Commons.

Musk was born in South Africa but holds Canadian citizenship through his mother, model Maye Musk, who was born in Regina, Sask.

Since the petition went live on Thursday afternoon, the number of signatures has quickly and steadily grown. The petition remains open for supporters to sign until June 20.

The House of Commons is scheduled to resume sitting March 24, however, a general election could be called before then.
