Chris Burney, the iconic 1990s rock star and former Bowling For Soup guitarist, recently disclosed that, according to his latest health update, he is missing two toes.
Chris’s revelation comes after he announced his permanent retirement last summer. Although he did not delve into the specifics of how he lost his toes, he shared a startling image of his foot sans the digits.
“I’m a Free-nubbin, butt-rubbin son of a gun,” the artist quipped in his post. He also shared a selfie of himself lounging on his sofa, cheekily sticking out his tongue.
Reports suggest that Chris suffered a leg injury which led him to take time off from the band to concentrate on his recovery.
His absence was notably felt at the 2024 Download Festival, where Bowling For Soup had to perform without him, reduced to a trio.

Earlier in the year, it was confirmed by The Sun that Chris would not be part of the line-up for the group’s UK 20th anniversary tour, A Hangover You Don’t Deserve.
“To All Our Amazing Bowling For Soup Fans… It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994,” the band expressed in a heartfelt social media announcement. “Some recent medical developments, 30 years of rocking balls and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue.”
The band added: “We are bummed to not have Chris by our sides, but absolutely support his decision. The three of us will carry on, with Chris’ blessing, and continue to build the legacy of this band we all love so much.”
They made it clear that there will be no replacement for Chris, stating: “You cannot replace a legend,” and emphasised their bond with, “We were brothers when we started this journey… and brothers we remain,” reports .

In a heartfelt expression of their plans for the future, the statement shared: “See you at the shows and in your ears.”
Bowling For Soup comprises frontman Jaret Reddick, drummer Gary Wiseman, and bassist and backing vocalist Rob Felicetti.
Speaking passionately about why they won’t fill Chris’s spot, Jaret told Kerrang!: “He and I started this band 30 years ago, almost 31 now, and at one point, he was kind of the face of the band. I can’t say it enough: we wouldn’t be us, or where we are, without him.”
