Charges laid after woman hit twice in intersection

Two people have been charged after a woman was hit by two vehicles, leaving her with serious injuries.

The woman was in the intersection of Pinetree and Guildford ways in Coquitlam at 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2024.

Coquitlam RCMP arrived as a Good Samaritan was tending to the victim.

It appears the pedestrian had the right of way and was legally crossing the street when she was hit. Shortly after, a second vehicle hit her while she lay unconscious on the ground. Neither driver stopped.

“Charges against two separate drivers have been approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service after a lengthy, detailed investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP,” said Const. John Graham in a statement on Thursday.

“The pedestrian victim continues to recover from this serious and senseless incident.”

Graham thanked the person who stayed to help and the other witnesses who helped with the investigation.

Break-and-enter suspect faces 40 charges

Police are recommending up to 40 charges against a suspect in a property crime spree in underground parking garages in downtown New Westminster.

The investigations led by the New West police street crime unit were launched into thefts from vehicles in October, December and four more earlier this month.

On Tuesday, New West police arrested a man in his 30s and are asking Crown counsel to approve 40 charges, including numerous counts of break-and-enter and breaching court-ordered conditions. The suspect is in custody.

“I’d say to criminals that New Westminster is not the place,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “These teams are the best at what they do. You can try to cover your tracks. It won’t work.”

Five arrested in stolen pickup that got stuck

Five people were arrested after a pickup was stolen from outside a home in Fort St. John.

The truck was stolen from the driveway in the 9800-block of 112th Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Later that evening, witnesses reported the pickup was stuck in the area of 277th Road near Montney. Several suspects were with the truck along with other vehicles.

“Reports also included that the multiple suspects had pointed firearms at the civilians who had located them,” said Const. Chad Neustaeter.

Because of the reports of guns, an emergency response team and a drone operator were called in as officers contained the suspects.

Five people were arrested, including Gavin Davis, who had outstanding warrants. All are in custody until a court appearance on Thursday.

Three vehicles including the stolen truck were seized.

“Though this event was safely resolved, it is a reminder that if you witness suspicious activity, please call the police rather than confront the suspects yourself,” said Jaime Moffat, the acting officer in charge of the Fort St. John RCMP detachment.

Three arrested in Port Alberni drug busts

Two men and a woman are under arrest after two Port Alberni homes were searched for evidence of drug trafficking.

The Port Alberni RCMP, a regional emergency response team, police dogs and highway patrol officers executed search warrants at the two homes on Wednesday.

Three Port Alberni residents were arrested and Mounties seized “a large quantity of illicit drugs, cash and contraband cigarettes,” said RCMP Const. Beth O’Connor in a news release on Thursday.

The investigation continues.
