Netflix’s latest romantic comedy, La Dolce Villa, features Scott Foley in another leading role. The film, which premiered on the streaming platform on February 13, sees the American actor playing a middle-aged man who journeys to Italy to prevent his daughter from purchasing a dilapidated villa.
During his trip, the single father finds himself captivated by a local woman named Francesca.
The romantic drama is likely to introduce the 52-year-old star to new viewers, but Foley is no newcomer to television. So, what other roles has he played, and what should we know about his life off-camera?

When reflecting on his favourite episode from the iconic show, he told Grantland that the first episode holds a special place in his heart.
“My life was so changed by the pilot. I remember reading it for the first time. I remember specific scenes and moments, filming it with Keri and Matt [Reeves] and Scott and Amy Jo Johnson. [My favourite episode] has to be the pilot or the last episode, which I still tear up at when I see it. It breaks my heart.”

Post-Felicity, the star maintained his television presence with roles in Scrubs, The Unit, and Grey’s Anatomy.
In 2013, he graced ABC’s acclaimed political thriller Scandal as a guest star before being promoted to a series regular. His character, Jake Ballard, found himself entangled in the show’s pivotal love triangle, mirroring his earlier role on Felicity.
Interestingly, he also played a man caught in a romantic tangle on Scrubs. When quizzed about his frequent casting as the ‘other man’, Foley humorously remarked: “I have made a d**n good life playing second banana.”
In the interview with Redbook magazine, he elaborated: “I think in reality you never want to be the ‘other guy’; but as an actor, a love triangle is instant drama, and it’s fantastic.”

When it comes to his personal life, the actor was once married to sensation Jennifer Garner. They first crossed paths in 1998 on the set of Felicity, where Garner had a guest role as Foley’s former flame.
The duo exchanged vows in 2000, only to announce their separation three years later.
Post-separation, whispers of infidelity during their marriage began to surface.
However, Foley came to her defence in an interview with TV Guide, stating: “Jennifer became a huge celebrity. She became a huge star, and she deserved everything she got. There was no other relationship, there was no infidelity, nothing. People get divorced, you know? Through no one’s fault and everyone’s fault.”
