Marco Rubio’s journey from Donald Trump critic to sycophantic secretary of state is getting a brutal bullying on tonight’s episode of “The Daily Show.”
HuffPost got an exclusive peek at the latest edition of the show’s Emmy-winning segment, “The Dailyshowography,” which ruthlessly mocks the “fun-sized Florida boy” for being an unabashed hypocrite when it comes to all things MAGA.
In the aptly titled “Pick-Me in Pink,” ’80s icon Molly Ringwald traces Rubio’s cynical political transformation with a narration that sounds like it was plucked straight from one of her coming-of-age classics.
“I wasn’t always hanging out with all the cool kids at Donald Trump’s lunch table,” the snarky segment starts, “But sometimes when you’re in the right place, at the right time, with the right complete lack of moral spine or integrity, magic can happen.”
The mock-bio mixes clips of Rubio’s career highs and lows with scenes from teen big-screen standards like “Clueless” and “Mean Girls” as it details how the Florida politician went from Republican “it girl” to “beta” and back ’round again.
Teasing “Little Marco’s” gaggle of gaffes and notoriously clammy response to President Barack Obama’s 2013 State of the Union speech, Ringwald jokes about the lawmaker’s stumble from “superstar to a short, sweaty high-heeled loser,” especially after going toe-to-toe with “Mean Girl” Trump during the 2016 GOP primaries.
When Rubio’s Oval Office aspirations dried up, his only choice was to undergo a complete political “makeover,” the segment jabs. In a jarring about-face, the lawmaker ended up endorsing Trump in 2016 and has stood by him ever since.
While the former senator’s political saga has been quite the rollercoaster, it seems like his decision to bend the knee to the president has paid off for now.
Earlier this month, the Senate unanimously confirmed the former Trump foe as his secretary of state.
Upon assuming his post on Jan. 20, Rubio declared his unwavering support for Trump’s America First agenda, telling the press corps, ”Under the leadership of President Trump, we will deliver peace through strength and always put the interests of Americans and America above all else.”
