The U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services has left a lot of people on social media feeling sick.
Moments after Kennedy’s confirmation was announced on Thursday, people on various social media platforms took shots at the notorious anti-vaxxer’s new gig managing the department in charge of public health.
Considering that Kennedy has made many controversial and scientifically dubious statements ― including tying gay and transgender identities to chemical exposure, suggesting COVID-19 was genetically engineered to target certain races and supporting the claim that vaccines cause autism ― it’s not surprising many people are worried sick about the potential damage he may cause.
Many people noted that Mitch McConnell, a polio survivor, was the only Republican senator to vote against Kennedy.
A couple of people reacted to the confirmation by cracking jokes about Kennedy being in charge of HHS.
And one person said the news of the anti-vaccine activist’s confirmation was a wake-up call to get their vaccinations done.
